THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE UNPROGRAMMED

What if I were to ask you, "Do you want to survive?" If your reaction is the same as if some wide-eyed idiot should ask you if you wanted to be saved, read no further. Fine. Although you don't feel threatened by the opposite of being saved, you seem mature enough to realize that this Disneyland for dummies is not permanent. Now, if you fudged and read on anyway, you may believe you have a life-support system guaranteed by a political/economic system that will see you through anything. Then is there any difference between you and those who are "saved"?

Our species is only the most advanced of all the great apes. Even so, we are as far above our nearest relative, the chimpanzee, as it is above the tarsier, the smallest and most primitive of us primates. The significance of this is that we are the only primates who are able to rise above our programming, or conditioning. But most of our fellows are no more able to rise above their programming than is a baboon. Instead of programming, they call it belief.

Believing is the state of not knowing. Believing is to knowing what wanting is to having, what being hungry is to being fed, what being dirty is to being washed. At best, it is incomplete. Most humans stop at believing; religions, politics, economics. In fact, they resist knowing as some who suspect they have cancer resist going to a doctor for confirmation. Or they resist reading the Bible for fear of going to Hell. Of course, if they didn't believe in the Bible they wouldn't believe in Hell.

So what happens when their beliefs fail them and they have no facts to fall back on? Will they mill around like lost sheep, or will they mob against those less affected by their plight?

As one who has risen above his childhood programming, you are in a position to help those around you or be destroyed by them. You need a life-support system which will make you valuable to your neighbors. If you are of no value to them you may be seen as one who helped draw the wrath of their god down on everyone.

But if you show them that they too can be independent of a failing system, you will help the best of them survive and aid them in fighting off the parasites who would loot them.
